On the back (and sometimes front) of Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, and other devices you'll find a baby-blue RJ45 female jack labelled "CONSOLE". This serial port enables you to configure the router at the command prompt level. The 9-PIN serial female end of the cable connects to the serial port of a PC. Beware though, not all laptops and PC's come with 9-PIN serial ports anymore. If this is the case for you, please see our listing for the USB Serial converter in addition to this cable.
